Jessie J may have worked as the house artist at this week's MTV Video Music Awards, but at the upcoming MOBO Awards she is the lead nominee. The singer is up for five awards at the urban music award show, including best U.K. act and best newcomer. Her No. 1 hit, "Do It Like a Dude," is nominated for best song and best video, while her debut album, "Who You Are," is up for best album.

British songbird Adele will battle Jessie J for the best U.K. act, album and song categories. Adele is also up for best U.K. R&B/soul act. English rappers Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah also received four nominations. Among the best international act nominees are Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Bruno Mars.

The awards ceremony takes place Oct. 5 in Glasgow, Scotland. Winners will be picked based on fan voting.

A Scots designer has been invited to create pairs of jeans for the directors of one of the world's biggest football clubs. Robert Watson, who operates from The Barras in Glasgow, will design jeans for officials at FC Barcelona after meeting with them at the Nou Camp stadium earlier this year. The Glasgow-based clothing technologist met with club directors Didac Lee and Xavi Asensi, who were so impressed with his one-off designs that they now plan to visit his store at The Barras for a fitting in September. Mr Watson, 31, who trades as Rabbie Denim, said it may lead to him designing pairs of jeans for the whole Barcelona squad.

Tributes have been paid to one of the world's greatest bagpipers who has died following a long illness. Officials from the world of Scottish music offered their condolences after Glasgow-born Pipe Major Alasdair Gillies passed away on Friday. The 47-year-old, who was the last pipe major of the Queen's Own Highlanders, won numerous awards for his solo piping performances, including two gold medals from the Highland Society of London.

On behalf of all the group who were at the hotel last saturday (5th) can I say a big THANK YOU to everyone who made our afternoon so successful.

Special thanks to the 'waiting staff' (I did ask someone to find out their names but now can't find the person who did it!) and all those working in the kitchen. We certainly enjoyed the meal and I didn't hear one person say anything negative about it.

Also, for allowing us to use the room at the bar for ourselves. We all appreciated very much to be in such a nice setting - even if my two neices decided to change things around a bit! To bring together 14 from all over Scotland took a bit of organising but I have to say that if I hear of anyone looking for a place to do likewise I shall certainly recommend you.

The weather has been truly fantastic this weekend, and here at the Argyll Hotel we were already in great spirits this Monday morning.

Imagine our delight when we received a letter from "Visit Scotland" singing our praises! The letter was sent to us after a very happy customer sent an email to the tourist board. Ms Jansens holidayed in Glasgow and stayed at the Argyll hotel for part of her trip.

"We were due to move on to Glasgow the next day, and had a booking for the following night at the Argyll Hotel," Ms Jansens wrote. "We phoned them and were delighted that they could accommodate us one night early. I am pleased to report that the beds were spotless, the staff charming, and the food excellent."

We are truly flattered that Ms Jansens took the time to acknowledge her satisfaction in writing, and delighted that Visit Scotland passed this on to us. We would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to both, and hope to see you again soon!

Glasgow forming links ahead of 2014 Commonwealth Games

London 2012 met Glasgow 2014 yesterday, presenting Scotland’s business community with a vision of potential benefits from the London Olympics, and by extension from hosting the Commonwealth Games two years later. The organising committees of both events are in regular contact, and are formalising the relationship. Paul Deighton, the Chief Executive of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: “I’m here to demonstrate that the Olympics in 2012 are not just about London. There are many, many, different ways in which Scotland, and indeed the rest of the UK, can participate.” Deighton spoke to The Herald before facing a packed suite at Glasgow Concert Hall where Scottish Enterprise staged the third of a series of seminars, Get Ready to Compete. “They’re designed to encourage Scottish businesses to raise their game and headline the breadth of opportunity available,” said a spokesperson.

Five Scots cities in the frame for art shows

Glasgow could show multiple exhibitions from one of the most important collections of art in the UK if new plans come to fruition. The next stage of Scotland’s £26.5 million acquisition of the unrivalled Anthony d’Offay collection of contemporary art was announced yesterday, with a series of new exhibitions across the UK, including five in Scotland in 2010. Glasgow’s Hunterian Museum will see an exhibition by groundbreaking German artist Joseph Beuys. However, although only one venue in Glasgow will be displaying works next year from the d’Offay collection, which is shown under the title Artist Rooms, in future the city could get multiple shows and even works from the collection on a more permanent basis to hang or be placed alongside works at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Burrell Collection and other leading galleries.

Ballroom blitz aims to bring more life to historic market

Glasgow’s world famous Barrowland Ballroom is being lined up to become the centrepiece of rejuvenation plans for the city’s Barras Market. Plans would see The Barras rebranded as a “music-related market destination” and open seven days a week to stimulate investment and boost visitor numbers. As part of efforts to overhaul the area marketed as a unique tourist destination, the city council has looked at London’s Camden Market and other markets in Europe as a template for success.

Glaswegians have been looking out their skates and taking to the ice in the city centre, as the annual Winterfest celebrations gets into full swing. The outdoor ice rink forms the centre-piece of George Square’s festive display, which was unveiled just over a week ago with the Christmas lights switch-on and a spectacular fireworks display over the City Chambers. Glasgow On Ice opened on Saturday and will run until January 3. It is open seven days a week from 10am-10pm, although school groups have reserved the rink for morning skating lessons until December 18. Visitors to George Square can also enjoy hot drinks, food, fairground stalls and rides and free entertainment every evening on the Big Stage.

Tom Jones born in 1940 is a welsh singer from Pontypridd. We left the Argyll Hotel at 17.30 with quick introductions as we walk along Glasgow`s main Sauchiehall street .
Our first main stop was Charing cross where we learned about Glasgow City centre and what it was like to grow up in the city of Glasgow. This was a chance to get our bearings and ask a few questions about the city of Glasgow.
We continued walking up towards woodlands area passing the Trinty Tower, Old Headquaters of Scottish Football and to the Granite staircase. After a slow walk up the Staircase we stop to admire the view. We now headed along Park circus to enter Kelvingrove Park. This Sir Joseph Paxton designed park is a classic example of a Victorian Park. Its design and setting on the banks of the River Kelvin. As we continued walking through the park we learned about the famous monuments and heard about Glasgow`s party park .We stopped at the bandstand to find out about the famous singers and groups who played there.
Crossing the beautiful Kelvin walkway we walked under Glasgow University and learned about it`s famous students . From here we got great views of Glasgows famous Art Galleries . We stopped walking here to find out whats good about the Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum and also it`s history . We then went on towards the Transport museum and the Kelvin hall. We learned about what`s there and what famous events happened here.
Now on to the main reason Glasgow has turned into a world famous city. The river Clyde. An easy stroll along the riverbank towards the SSEC . Seeing the Science centre , BBC studio`s and the Glasgow tower. Here we heard about shipbuiding on the Clyde. The Walk now heads passed Big Bertha . The crane built for lifting trains on to ships. The final stop is the Squinty bridge where you can take great photographs of the river .
We then headed back to the Argyll Hotel and Sutherlands Restaurant for 19.30 for a well deserved drink and some great Scottish food .

Scotland is to host a prestigious sailing event next year which will attract competitors from more than 30 countries. The Royal Yachting Association has announced that the Laser World Championships will be held in Largs, Ayrshire next year. The world-renowned championships are set to attract more than 500 sailors, including many who have set their sights on representing their countries at the 2012 Olympic Games. Largs will host the Women’s World Championships from July 7-14, 2010 and the Men’s and Youth Championships from 18-25, 2010.

One of the most popular events in the Glasgow calendar has been shortened from two days to one. Whisky Live, a celebration of Scotland’s national drink, has grown in popularity since it was first staged in Glasgow in 2004. Two years ago the show moved from George Square to the SECC to cater for the thousands of visitors turning up to enjoy a dram. But organisers say that this year’s festival in September will be held at the Thistle Hotel in Cambridge Street – and will be a shorter, one-day event. A spokeswoman said: “It is nothing to do with a lack of interest or the credit crunch – we had loads of people at the event last year. The exhibitors wanted it back in the city and we listened. Next year we hope to have it back to a two-day format but have to take notice of what exhibitors want.”

Forty electric cars are to be tested on the streets of Scotland's largest city as part of the world's biggest trial of environmentally-friendly vehicles. The specially-designed electric cars will be seen on the roads of Glasgow by the end of the year. Glasgow firm Allied Vehicles, leading the project, has already converted the Peugeot Expert Teepee into an electric car, and is now working to transform the Peugeot Partner saloon so that it can also run off a battery. Drivers will then be chosen by Glasgow City Council to test 40 of the electric cars for 12 months, so that data can then be analysed by Strathclyde University. It is hoped the trial, which is mirrored by similar electric-car schemes in eight other locations across the UK, will help pave the way for mass take up of environmentally-friendly vehicles in the future. The cars will be recharged from a home power supply, or 40 specially designed plug-in points to be installed across Glasgow. The Glasgow project has received a £1.8 million share of £25m government funding and Allied managing director Paul Nelson said the decision to award the Glasgow project funding would make the city "a leading player for the quest for green transport". Councillor Philip Braat, Glasgow City Council's deputy executive member for business and the economy, said he hoped the project would help make Glasgow "Scotland's greenest" city, and "one of the most sustainable cities in Europe".

An artistic love of the River Clyde has led a Scottish artist to paint another great river, the Don in Russia, as she becomes the foreign artist-in-residence for the city of Rostov-on-Don. Cara McKinnon Crawford, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, is currently embarking on a lengthy and ambitious project to chart the flow of the Clyde in oil paintings, from its source, through Glasgow, to the sea. The nearly 200-painting endeavour, which she hopes will be displayed at a gallery in Glasgow city centre when it is completed, has led the artist to the residency in Glasgow’s twin city in Russia, which is on the banks of a similarly industrial waterway, the Don.

A new pedestrian and cycle crossing spanning the River Clyde officially opened to the public yesterday with a pledge that it will act as a catalyst for investment despite the global recession. The Tradeston Bridge, dubbed the ‘Squiggly’ bridge, has been hailed as a milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Clyde waterfront. The bridge is intended to give Glasgow’s International Financial Services District “a sense of place” and link it with the Tradeston area on the south bank of the Clyde. Steven Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “The Tradeston Bridge and the wider scheme to develop new public places will act as a catalyst for future regeneration of the Tradeston area. It is important that the public purse continues to invest in the city’s infrastructure at this difficult time to bolster Glasgow’s economy and pave the way for future development along the Clyde waterfront.” He added: “It’s not just about having another crossing but I think it’s something which looks really good. £50m Titian painting to go on show in Glasgow

The Titian masterpiece, Diana and Actaeon, bought with the help of public cash for the National Galleries in Edinburgh, will come to Glasgow. The National Galleries has revealed that following calls by the Evening Times and Glasgow MSP Bill Butler, it is now intending to show the £50m painting in the city. John Leighton, director general at the National Galleries of Scotland, confirmed that Glasgow’s status in cultural terms will make it one of the “premier venues” for the Titian. He said: “The National Galleries of Scotland and the National Gallery, London, are currently drawing up plans for Titian’s great masterpiece Diana and Actaeon to be shown across the United Kingdom. In a Scottish context this will involve a number of our greatest cities and Glasgow will, of course, be one of the premier venues.” The original plan was for the painting to alternate between Edinburgh and London, spending eight month periods in each city until May 2012, when it would begin a five-year rotation starting with London. Now, it is set to come to an as-yet undecided venue in Glasgow, although Kelvingrove is thought to be the obvious front-runner.

Glasgow Nationalist MSP Bill Kidd has put down a motion demanding a rethink on Scotland’s art collection after discovering only nine pictures are on display in the west. Mr Kidd has argued that more of the NSG collection should be displayed in Glasgow in an effort to help promote the Commonwealth Games and the link between Scotland’s two biggest cities. He has suggested the McLellan Galleries in Sauchiehall Street could be used as a venue. The NGS director-general John Leighton insisted that they are committed to sharing the national collection.

Airport operator BAA last night revealed it will appeal the decision by the Competition Commission to make it sell three of its airports, including either Edinburgh or Glasgow. The commission ruled recently that BAA’s ownership of seven UK airports was anti-competitive. It said that Spanish-owned BAA must sell Gatwick and Stanstead as well as one of its Central Belt airports. BAA has decided to sell Gatwick in West Sussex and said last night that the sale process was continuing. But BAA said it was applying to the Competition Appeal Tribunal to review the commission’s report on two grounds. The first centred on “apparent bias” in the commission’s ruling. BAA claimed there was a link between a member of the commission panel and “an organisation interested in acquiring the airports that BAA is required to sell”. It said it would also appeal on the grounds that the commission failed to take into account “the adverse financial impact of introducing competition”. That centred on “the requirement on BAA to sell three airports within two years in the current financial and economic circumstances”.

Strathclyde Law School won the Best Contribution by a Law School award in the LawWorks & Attorney General Student Awards. The University won its award for the work of its Law Clinic, which offers free legal advice and representation to members of the public who do not qualify for Legal Aid but still cannot afford professional fees. The Law Clinic is the only service of its kind in Scotland and Strathclyde is the first Scottish university to win in the LawWorks & Attorney General Student Awards. Law schools in Scotland and Northern Ireland were invited to enter the awards for the first time this year.

Organisers of the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival today announced a seven per cent increase in sales for 2009. More than 75,000 tickets were sold for 347 shows during the 18-day event. The Sunday Herald was media partner. Scottish Comedy Agency director Tommy Sheppard said: “We’ve broken all records. This proves laughter is the best medicine.” Highlights included Jimmy Carr, who sold out four nights at the SECC, Ross Noble, who packed the Theatre Royal for three evenings and Rob Brydon, who filled the concert hall for two nights.

Scotland will host this year's Music of Black Origin (Mobo) Awards for the first time.
Singer Lemar and X Factor stars JLS made the announcement at Glasgow's Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre where the event will take place.
Lemar, who shot to stardom after appearing in the BBC talent show Fame Academy, said this year's ceremony would be an "outstanding event".
The last 13 shows have always taken place in London.
"Bringing the Mobo Awards here to Glasgow, a city with such a strong and vibrant music scene, is the perfect fit," said Lemar.
"I love touring in the UK and the welcome I receive when I come to Scotland is incredible."

Lemar has performed twice at the Mobo Awards
Lemar has previously performed at the event twice and said both times have been a "highlight" in his career.
JLS are currently supporting Lemar on his UK tour.

When I sat down at the Glasgow Media Luncheon this afternoon, the gentleman next to me began to describe what the city was like 30 years ago. Its primary economy of shipping had suffered, and the city was getting a negative reputation that was not unlike New York’s at the same time, he said.
But just as New York in 2009 is nothing like New York in 1979 or even 1989, Glasgow has reinvented itself to become a beacon of culture and art in Scotland. About 30,000 people in a city of 1.2 million (including the suburbs) are employed in the tourism industry. Museums and luxury hotels are opening throughout the city (at least 2,500 new hotel rooms are expected to debut within the next five years; 160 of these will be in the Jumeriah Glasgow and 85 in the Blythswood Hotel) and a new National Arena will open in 2012 or 2013, just in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Arts and culture festivals take place throughout the year, and 2009 has become a yearlong celebration called “Homecoming Scotland,” honoring the 250th birthday of Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns. As hosts Scott Taylor, chief executive of the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, and Nancy McLardie, head of PR for the same company, explained, Glasgow is growing its own culture rather than “poaching” from other destinations in the UK. The effort has paid off: Last August, the city was named the UNESCO City of Music, and Taylor and McLardie estimate that 127 music events happen in Glasgow every week.

Plans for a multi-million pound super-college serving Scotland's largest city will go ahead despite a decision by one of the key partners to drop out.
The Scottish Funding Council said the £300m project in Glasgow's city centre would proceed with the three remaining colleges after the sudden withdrawal of Stow College.
Officials at Stow said the decision to withdraw from New Campus Glasgow, revealed in The Herald yesterday, came after attempts by the funding council to accelerate a merger of four city centre colleges, rather than pursue the original plan for a co-location, where each college kept its own identity.

Yesterday, John McClelland, chairman of the funding council, wrote to the three remaining colleges of Central, Metropolitan and Nautical - assuring them of the project's future.
"Given that the boards of the three remaining colleges have agreed to the vision of a single college fit for the 21st century in the centre of Glasgow, we believe that we have the prospect of making rapid progress towards this vision," he said. "We remain enthusiastically committed to working with the three colleges to create the modern, innovative, new city campuses on Cathedral Street and Thistle Street that Glasgow needs.
On Thursday, Bob McGrory, the principal of Stow College, warned that any attempt to speed up the process by the funding council, which is bankrolling the capital cost of the project, could lead to job cuts.
"Gradual co-location would have allowed a transition without immediate job cuts, but it is obvious to anyone that there will be an impact on support-staff jobs and teaching jobs if merger happens more quickly," Mr McGrory said.
He went on to question the affordability of the project in a recession and said the size of the proposed campus was not in the best interests of students, staff or the community.
In May last year, the four colleges of Central, Stow, Metropolitan and Nautical Studies set up a company to deliver New Campus Glasgow, the biggest further education building project in Europe. It was originally proposed that the four colleges were to co-locate to a state-of-the-art campus in Cathedral Street and Thistle Street by 2012, with 50,000 students and 2000 staff.
The move was intended to prevent duplication of courses, save public money and provide modern facilities.
However, little progress has been made in moving towards the co-location and the funding council has been increasingly concerned about the logjam.
A briefing document prepared by the funding council for last month's meeting with Stow officials spoke of the need to provide "urgent signals of real progress if the £300m is to be secured".
For the funding council, co-location would fail to deliver "pace, coherence of vision and external credibility", while an early four-way merger would provide a "clear signal of intent to the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council".

Record ticket sales for book festival

Glasgow's biggest literary event, the Aye Write! Bank of Scotland Book Festival, has sold a record amount of tickets going into its opening weekend.
More than 10,000 tickets have been bought for the festival, which began last night and runs to March 14, based around the Mitchell Library in the city.
The programme of the festival, in its fourth year, is full of well known literary names including Booker Prize-winner Graham Swift and the broadcaster Joan Bakewell, who will launch her first novel, the wartime romance All the Nice Girls, at the age of 75.
Last night Alan Bennett, the much-loved author and playwright, kicked off the festival with a sold-out event at the library. The writer read from his popular diaries and then answered questions from the capacity audience.

When he was asked whether he had ever considered blogging instead of writing his diary, he answered: "I am not even sure what blogs are.
"I don't even have a computer so I read about them, but don't know how people have the time to do it.
"I have always written in pen and ink and then onto the typewriter, so my grasp of technology is very small.
"We were thinking about getting a computer but I didn't want e-mails and all that. People write to me by hand and that's good, because it does filter people out." Bennett spoke about his favourite performance of one of his Talking Heads monologues, Penelope Wilton's Nights in the Gardens of Spain, and also revealed he had never met the Queen, who he has written about successfully in his latest book, The Uncommon Reader.
He also had a few words to say about education.
Bennett attended a state school in his youth, Leeds Modern, and he said: "I am one of the few people left in England who don't believe in private education.
"I went to a state school and I think we should have evolved a system where the upper reaches of private schooling were merged within the upper reaches of state schools. You mention it and people are embarrassed, because it's old-fashioned socialism."
Authors such as Robert Fisk and AL Kennedy will also be present at the festival, which will feature more than 200 authors, writers and thinkers, including Gavin Esler, Julian Baggini and Lorraine Kelly. Ten new short stories by leading writers, including Val McDermid and Jackie Kay, have also been commissioned to celebrate Homecoming on the theme of whisky.
The festival will also celebrate the newest "city read", or mass reading project, with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. Ticket sales have been brisk and are ahead of what they were this time last year, a spokesman for the festival, for which The Herald is media partner, said. Last year the festival sold more than 25,000 tickets. "The figures so far are the best ever, with more than 10,000 sold already," he said.
"It is an improvement on last year and if you put it in context with what else is happening in Glasgow, a good year for Celtic Connections in particular, it is great news for the city.
"So far it is very encouraging, as these are sales before the festival has even started. Many events are already sold out." The festival also includes the Aye Write! Bank of Scotland prize for Scottish Fiction, which returns for the second year.

Holiday Inn owners Inter-Continental hotels, the world’s largest hotelier, warned a slump in fourth-quarter bookings had continued into 2009 with “no sign of improvement” on the horizon. The UK-based hotels firm said that worldwide revenues per available room (revpar) was down by 12.2 per cent in January. The decline was led by cutbacks in business travel and a steep fall in demand in the Asia-Pacific region. Inter-Continental have recently embarked on a $1bn refurbishment programme for their Holiday Inn brand. 21 UK establishments have been improved under the programme, as the group look to build on custom in the growing mid-market.

Applicants rise sparks uni cash call - Evening Times (17 February)

A rise in the number of people applying to Scots universities has triggered calls for more funding from the Scottish Government. The call from the University and College Union came after figures showed a 5.7% rise in applications to Scottish universities. Undergraduate applications to Glasgow University rose by almost 15% last year, almost 10% above the national average. Fiona Andrews, of Glasgow University, said: “We are delighted to see an increase in applications to Glasgow, which speaks volumes for the reputation of the university and the high esteem with which our teaching and research activities are held, both at home and abroad.”

In response to the current economic climate, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has unveiled a value-added initiative from leading city hotels that will make Glasgow an even more attractive and competitive destination for conferences. Under the new initiative, major hotels will provide new residential conferences with a range of incentives including a free traditional ‘Burns Supper’ course to mark the year of Homecoming, a free drink for each delegate and free accommodation for the partners of delegates.
Furthermore, the decrease in the value of Sterling against the Dollar and the Euro means that Glasgow is now around 25% cheaper for US and European buyers than it was two years ago.
Molly Doheny, Head of the Convention Bureau at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Conferences are extremely important to Glasgow and this package of value-added measures demonstrates the willingness across the city’s hotel community to keep Glasgow competitive. More Cash for city arts would help Scotland - Evening Times (17 February)

Pauline McNeil, Labour’s culture spokesman, has claimed that additional funding for Glasgow’s galleries and museums would allow greater public access and even wider international interest. Ms. McNeil has written to Culture Minister Mike Russell asking him to detail the criteria applied by the Scottish Government to determine national status. She said: “I have consistently argued this case and believe the time has come for there to be a thorough assessment of the funding arrangements for Glasgow. Given the value for money Glasgow has been able to provide attracting the largest visitor numbers outwith London, you can see any additional funding will be well spent.” Currently, Edinburgh’s National Galleries and Museums receive £41 million of Government funding, while the likes of Kelvingrove and the Burrell collection receive nothing.

New banknotes have been designed by Clydesdale Bank to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns and the Year of Homecoming 2009.
The new family of banknotes celebrates famous Scots and the five World Heritage Sites in Scotland, drawing on the Homecoming themes of Burns, Great Minds and Innovation, Culture and Heritage.
The new designs are:
£5 Sir Alexander Fleming and St Kilda
£10 Robert Burns and The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh
£20 Robert the Bruce and New Lanark
£50 Elsie Inglis and The Antonine Wall
£100 Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Heart of Neolithic Orkney

First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"The Clydesdale Bank's commemorative notes are a wonderful contribution to the Homecoming celebrations. The new designs showcase our unrivalled landmarks and landscapes as well as the contributions of some of Scotland's greatest minds. PARLIAMENT LAUNCHES OFFICIAL TARTAN COMPETITION

A tartan competition has been announced at Holyrood by Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP. Joined by two fashion textile students, Jill Kirkham and Kirsty Robertson from Cardonald College, the Presiding Officer has launched a competition to design an official Scottish Parliament tartan as part of the events marking 2009 as the 10th anniversary of devolution.
Announcing the launch of the competition, the Presiding Officer said: “As part of our activities to mark a decade of devolution we are launching a competition to design an official Scottish Parliament tartan. Tartan is not only an internationally recognised symbol of our country, but the tartan industry also makes a significant contribution to Scotland's economy. The competition will use the talent of Scotland’s design students to generate a unique tartan which I hope both MSPs and members of the public will enjoy wearing in the years to come.”
The competition is open to all current textile and design students studying at thirteen Further and Higher Education establishments across Scotland. Students are invited to enter their tartan design by the closing date of January 30. Judging will be carried out in March, and the production of the cloth will be completed in time for the Presiding Officer to wear at the 10th anniversary event on 1 July 2009.
The winning design will be exclusively used by the Scottish Parliament for items sold in the Parliament shop and for marketing and publicity. The new tartan will be registered with the new Scottish Tartans Register as “the official Scottish Parliament tartan”.
The winning entrant will receive a length of the finished tartan and an invitation to the 1 July event. Both the winning entrant and two runners-up will be offered paid industry work placement opportunities.
