Green Glasgow wins BWEC (Stay at the Argyll Hotel Glasgow)

Green Glasgow wins BWEC The British Wind Energy Conference (BWEC) has chosen Glasgow and the SECC for its conference and exhibition taking place in October 2010. The news follows the venue’s award early this year of Gold in the Green Business Tourism Scheme. The conference returns to Glasgow and the SECC next year with previous visits inspiring the venue to new innovations in green business. Over the past years the SECC has implemented an internal programme to increase CSR initiatives with the aim of achieving the high standards set out by the Green Business Tourism Scheme.“The SECC has been at the forefront of green initiatives for some time now and we are delighted to hold Gold in the Green Business Tourism Scheme. However, winning a conference of such environmental significance is the ultimate endorsement,” comments Ben Goedegebuure, Sales Director at the SECC. “The British Wind Energy Conference needs to be hosted in a venue that reflects its values and we’re delighted they chose the SECC.”“The win further supports Glasgow’s emergence as a green city for business tourism and reflects the efforts of Team Glasgow to offer responsible venues and services,” comments Scott Taylor, Chief Executive, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau. “We’re delighted to welcome the conference back to Glasgow, it’s one the entire city is proud to be hosting.”

Glasgow prepares to host MOBO awards - Lindsay Johns, London Evening Standard (16 September)Forget Trainspotting, the Gorbals, the tedious “See you, Jimmy” jokes. Glasgow is an intoxicating place to be right now. Within minutes of stepping off the train at Glasgow Central, and walking down Argyle Street and into St Enoch Square, I find strangers being among the most helpful and welcoming I have ever met.Glasgow has a rich musical heritage, be it classical, Celtic, rock or hip hop. It is now an official Unesco City of Music — Glaswegians spend more on live music per capita than any other UK city. It makes sense for it to be hosting the MOBO awards this month for the first time. Eminem, Fifty Cent, Kanye West and The Game have played here and tonight Jay-Z supports Coldplay at Hampden Park. Even Dizzee Rascal will soon be regaling Glaswegians with his Cockney rap
