The debut film of Scottish comedy writer Armando Iannucci is to open the Glasgow Film Festival. In The Loop is a big-screen companion piece of the writer’s critically acclaimed BBC series The Thick Of It. The showing in Glasgow will be the first in the UK for the film. Bailie Liz Cameron, chairwoman of the Glasgow Film Theatre and vice-chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “The festival is firmly established on the city’s annual events calendar and demonstrates its wide appeal by attracting not only a dedicated Glasgow contingent but visitors from further afield.”
