Director appointed to build on Glasgow’s City of Music status

The woman who runs Glasgow's concert halls is to be the first director of the body that will build on its newly-designated status as a Unesco City of Music.
Louise Mitchell, currently director of Glasgow's Concert Halls, will assume the new position in May.
Last year the city became an officially designated centre of music after being granted the honour by the cultural wing of the UN.
In her current position she runs the organisation that manages the Celtic Connections festival and venues such as the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow City Halls and the Old Fruitmarket.
Her new position will be director of GUCM (Glasgow Unesco City of Music), and a full launch of the new organisation will be announced shortly.
Ms Mitchell said: "My years at Glasgow's Concert Halls have been a great time personally for me - developing the venues and audiences and seeing events like Celtic Connections flourish; and it was a great privilege to work on the redevelopment of the City Hall's and Old Fruitmarket.
"I have an outstanding team of colleagues who I am very sorry to leave, but I look forward to this opportunity to work even more widely in Glasgow's music scene and make the most of the fantastic opportunities Glasgow Unesco City of Music can offer."
Colin McClatchie, the chair of Glasgow Unesco City of Music, said: "We are delighted to welcome a director of the experience and standing of Louise Mitchell to lead Glasgow Unesco City of Music in its first years.
"She has just the qualities we need: clear artistic vision and a track record of working through partnerships, balancing aspiration and commercial realities to realise it.
"Louise's long experience in music locally, nationally and internationally makes her the ideal leader."
