Axe falls at historic city hotel

Axe falls at historic city hotel – The Evening Times (3 February)A search has begun to find a buyer for a historic Glasgow hotel which has played host to VIPs from Winston Churchill to Frank Sinatra. The 222 room Quality Hotel at Central Station has closed down after its owners went into administration. The A-listed building on the corner of Gordon Street and Hope Street is one of five hotels which have shut after the collapse of the Real Hotel Group. Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said: “It is a great shame to see this grand old lady of Scotland’s hotel industry close its doors. The Central hotel is held in great affection by visitors and Glaswegians alike, many of who will have their own private memories of special occasions celebrated there. Unfortunately, the group that owns the hotel has been issuing profit warnings and it was only a matter of time before the Central announcement.”
